Nellie Philips

This poem conveys my sentiments of this most beautiful part of Kinghorn. It was written in conjunction with my sister Dorothy Baxter. A well known writer and entertainer and still at well over 80 writing and performing in town. At the same time I wrote the poem The Daisy Beds. These poems were performed in a show I wrote and produced for SWRI at the request of KTC about 1967-1968.

O lonely loch my land of dreams

How far how far the memories seem

Yet lonely loch can I forget

The place where childhood sweethearts met

Where hand in hand we gaily wandered

And by the Burnside meandered

Past the pond where duck and swan

Glide, chatter and adorn

On to the lonely loch and there

Behold a beauty still more fair

The setting sun fans out behind the Bin

With all the golden glory of the whin

Calling curlew sweeps the fiery curtain glow

Then fastly falling takes his rest below

Suddenly all the worlds at peace

No sound from natures bird or beast disturbs the peaceful scene

Then yonder in the far off reed the Perch rise to begin their evening feed

And from the distant farm the restless cow calls and calling settles now

From crystal springs the cool clear water

Tinkles over the lonely loch

A mirror clear

All is peace and all gods love is here

Amidst the peaceful scene
